Another month has quickly pasted, and instead of complaining about being on Unemployment Island I’ve decided to pick out three positive things that happened!
I got to have lunch with a group of my friends! We went to an Italian restaurant I had a meatball sub; and it was amazing. I even got to enjoy a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. (One of my favorites 🙂 )
2. I have the most supportive group of friends in the whole wide world. From here locally to all the way from England to India. They support my writing and what I am trying to achieve. When we get a chance to chat online we have a blast and I couldn’t be more thankful for them.
3. Lastly, I got to see a live taping of a show called “Inner Voices,” this specific show was about an Indian named Chief Blue-Eyes and about his culture. The show was very interesting and I learned a lot.
After the taping my supervisor and I went to a Mexican restaurant to celebrate my one year work anniversary.
As I sit here drinking my almost cold coffee, I also take a glance at my planner. Boy, May was filled with excitement! As you know, I’m the intern for She’s Social, and we had our launch party this month. For weeks leading up to the party I worked hard gathering information that my supervisor asked of me. We had meetings on how she wanted the launch party to go. I’m happy to say that the launch party was a success and everyone had a great time. There was music, dancing, poetry, and speeches. The room was filled with great energy.
Now onto my journey with my long-three year stay on unemployment island. My job coaches found a hot job lead as a receptionist. I went to the interview ready to nail it! I dressed for success and showed interest in the company. I felt like my interviewing skills have improved, yet I was not chosen….
Another thing one of my job coaches did to help me leave the island was to help me pick out two more dress for success outfits for interviews. I like my new outfits and feel like I can nail my next interview.
Until my next interview though I will be chatting with my friends about the minimal resources I have, and how I can build a boat that will not sink when I start paddling out towards employment island.
This week I got to attend my first Impact 100 meeting. Not only was this my first time to see how this outreach helps our community, but it was my first time out in the field as a member of She’s Social. I was so excited when my supervisor picked me up; however, I became even more excited when I received my very own media pass.
There was a lot of people already at the meeting. My supervisor and I walked around and looked at the different organizations that impact 100 has helped-what was cool was that one of the organizations that won a past grant actually taught me life skills to help me become independent. While we waited for the meeting to start my supervisor took pictures and then she interviewed some people. After the pictures and interviews were finished I was able to ask questions.
Since we still had a few minutes before the meeting we went through the buffet. We both got samples of all different kinds of goodies. Once we finished eating the meeting started, and it was nice to hear the opening speech and how this organization is helping so many people in the community.
When I got home I had another special surprise waiting for me: my new journalism bag! It was a fantastic day; and I can’t wait for the next adventure.
First, I want to apologize for not writing last week; I had some personal things that I needed to work on. Now that I’m back at work, I’m slowly getting done with writing down and charting all of our social media groups in order to find and locate on a digital form.
Next week, I will start to analyze the groups we are in, and then start moving thoughts groups to our Facebook Social Media page. I think this part of the assignment is going to be easy because I know hotkey that makes moving things quickly; this second part of this project will take some time, however this means that we are getting closer to our goal.
One minor thing I did this week was write a business letter to someone because she’s Social would love to attend an annual conference this summer. I’m excited because I’ve wanted to go to this conference for as long as I’ve heard about it.
I feel like I am getting closer to my dream of achieving some type of career goal for myself because I have decided to accept the proposed title for employment.
First, I hope each one of you had a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. I enjoyed my break and I am ready to see what 2017 has in store for me.
Since I’ve been back I have been working on organizing the groups that we follow on Facebook. This task has been hard for me to do because my computer, screen reader and Kurzweill 3000 have not been working right. I’ve been praying for a miracle and I’m happy to say that my God has provided me with the answers to my prayers, so for now its keep on trucking through.
For now I’m doing the best I can with the computer I have. I hope to have the groups all organized soon. To do this, I scroll through the Facebook groups and write them down by hand, then once my computer has cooled down I go into our Excel file and I enter the information in there.
I am excited to move on to the next part of this project, so we can get closer to our launch party that will be happening in April.
This week I wanted to do two blog posts into one because it’s been a long two weeks. Last week, I had to get my computer to a shop because it was having some issues. Once it was returned to me I got to do what I love to do-put out events via social media. I posted an event about an art show that is coming up in January. I also created an Excel sheet to help keep things organized. I like our new method of having the name of the group on the right side of the Colum with the dates that I post on to the left of it. This is going to help me keep my posts organized and for me to be more productive.
This week I’ve also been working with social media and posting about the art show. I have another social media project that I was assigned and I’m eagar to get started on it.
I’ve also been organizing the groups we post in by using an Excel sheet. One of the hardest things about doing this project is getting organized because the groups keep changing order. So I’ve decided to print out the chart I have now and to go down the list of groups that we follow and check them off; as I find ones that I haven’t added to the list I will write them down manually then add them to the list electronically.
Once all these projects are completed, on Friday, I’m going to be on break for two weeks. I’m excited!
With that I would like to take the time to thank all of my readers and subscribers for following my blog. I look forward to blogging all about my adventures in 2017….Everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
The week after Thanksgiving has been a busy week. On Wednesday, I had to use my clerical skills by using Google calendar to schedule a few meetings for my supervisor; I liked learning how to use Google calendar because I’ve never done this before. It took me a few minutes to learn how to see what days were open for my supervisor, however once I got used to the format, I was able to complete the assignment without any problems. This skill will help me in the future for when I have similar assignments; I’m going to learn more about how to schedule appointments when I have training this month. I’m eager to go through the training for this month, so I can learn more about clerical and writing skills that will help me become a better writer.
I had to do some basic research on some topics that are trending on social media. The one that caught my eye the most was about a young judge. I liked this assignment because it reminded me that you can do anything-no matter what goal you have for your life, you can achieve it if you work hard at it.
