My internship with She’s Social: Week 14: Finding continuing educational classes

Hi Blog world,

This week I learned about what kinds of continuing educational classes and workshops that are available in our community.

Some of these classes talked about business and how to start your own business other classes were strictly for learning how to become a better writer.

I found two business workshops that looked good; unfortunately, my supervisor and I were unable to attend. I will continue to look for other workshops that can be taken at another time or maybe even through the computer.

Even though, I was not able to attend any continuing educational classes face to face, I did find some classes through www.Alison.com. I have been enjoying the classes I have been taking.  So far I have taken classes in: social media, and some basic business classes. So far the classes that have to deal with social media has been my favorite. This is because I like the diversity that social media brings.

My goal is to continue taking classes to improve any area that I feel will help me reach my goal of being the best writer I can be!

My internship with She’s Social: Week 13:Long Labor Day Weekend

Hi Blog world,

First, I hope everyone had a fun and long holiday weekend. I enjoyed my day off by taking a walk, reading for my book club, and I did some journal writing.

This week, I worked on finding more continuing educational classes, to help improve and grow my skills. Finding classes is an ongoing process. I hope I can find more classes to take in the future. I like learning new things, and using those skills to help me grow in my career.

My main task for this week was to work on posting an event on social media that is coming up this month. It was fun, and I like working on Facebook; I had to work hard on this assignment because I kept getting stuck with finding groups that we could follow. Thank goodness for help from my supervisor. She gave me ideas and tips to help me find a wider audience.

How do you guys use social media? What are some of your favorite groups or pages on Facebook? Tell me in the comments below.

A day out in Pensacola

Hi Blog world,

This past Saturday, I got to go out with a group of friends, we went out to get Thai food. I had never had Thai food before, so I was excited to try something different for a change. All the food that I had that day was hot and fresh when it came to our table.

I had spring rolls as an appetizer; they were so crunchy that they fell apart as I ate mine. I shared part of mine with friends too. We all split some dumplings. They were soft, and filled with vegetables-I even discovered that they were quite tasty with sweet and sour sauce on them.

The main course that I had was sweet and sour chicken. The food was over-flowing with sweet and sour sauce; there were a lot of vegetables too. The chicken was not fried like I had hoped for. But never the less, it hit the spot. Soon I was full, and I did not have room for another bite.

The price for the meal, including the tip was great. I didn’t pay more than twelve dollars including the tip.

After we dropped off our friends at their house, my other friend and I hit , what we jokingly call, “The Not New Store,” other wise known as, a thrift store.  I really needed some shorts, so I was very lucky to find five pairs for around 3 dollars.  We then continued our day by going to another store. I found a pair of jeans for around 7 dollars. I was so happy.

It was nice to get out with my friend and to make some new friends. All in all, it was a great day.

My second job fair: a personal story

Hi Blog world,

Have you ever had a craving for a certain food? Well, I’ve had a craving for a fish sandwich for the past week, and that’s what I had, from McDonald’s, after my second job fair.

This time, the job fair was much more crowded than the first job fair I went too.

Because of my eye condition, Nystagmus, crowds feel so overwhelming to me. So I ended up taking my time with getting around to the different employers that were there.

I feel like this job fair was a little bit more successful than the first, because I was able to fill out an application for a local law firm. The job I applied for was not a writing job, however, I would be able to use my skills from a previous job I had.

I gave my resume to a handful of other employees too. I know from my past experience that I will not get a call back because my skills didn’t match with what they where looking for. But at least, I got my name out there.

I feel like this journey, has been a long one. Two years to be exact, however, the main theme of my current journey is the same. Keep trying, and don’t give up.

My internship with She’s Social: Week 11/12: Clerical skills

Hi Blog world,

This week, I am going to combined two weeks of blogs into one.

Last week, I really enjoyed my work assignment-I got to choose music that was basic on a theme for an upcoming radio show. I enjoy music in general, so this assignment was right up my alley! The type of music I looked up where rap and R and B songs. Most people are surprised to learn that I like both rap and R and B. I generally listen to country, however I enjoy all different kinds of music.

I can’t wait to look up music for another show again. This helped me understand some of the basics of how a radio show is produced. Since, I got to look up the music, it helped me understand the research that I did for the show. The research I did for the show was interesting; I enjoy doing research and learning new things.

This week, I did some basic clerical work-sending out letters to local business for an upcoming event. This assignment helped me work on my basic research skills, since I have to look up their contact information.

My internship with She’s Social: Week 10: Jamming to the music

Hi Blog world,

This week was a fun week! I  got the opportunity to help pick music for an upcoming radio show. To do this I had to know the theme of the show; which was on cheating.

I got to listen to R&B and Rap; something that I normally don’t listen too, however I do listen to it on occasion. Some of the artists I choose for the show I had never heard of before. Other artists, like the rap artist Nelly, I have listened to before.

Because of this I was eagerly awaiting feedback. I did fine with it, and It was a fun assignment, and I hope I can do it again soon.

My internship with She’s social:Week 9:Preparing to contact the media

Hi Blog world,

This week I have been working on gathering contact information so we can send out our press releases.

I am enjoying this project because I get to see all the different kinds of magazines that are out there. This has reminded me that there are several places to write for, and if I work hard I can live my dream of being a writer.

To be honest, I see myself as a successful writer, spending most of my days living a very busy life, and being  very independent.
