Wobbly Wednesday Follow up….

Hi Blog world,

Yesterday, November 5, was Wobbly Wednesday and in honor of that day I was going to blog a Q and A session. So here’s three common question I get from people…..

1. What is your vision like? It’s kinda hard to explain so I use this analogy, It’s like looking through a piece of Saran wrap. It’s blurry, and as the day goes on I lose the “Good” vision I have.

2. Can you see color? Yes, I can. But some colors are harder to see than others. The colors I struggle with the most are yellow and green, particularly if they are on a white back ground; this made going to school difficult for me because I had to remind my teachers to not to use those colors and to use something darker, like black, so I could see what they were writing.

3. You don’t look visually impaired.. So how can you be? This is the question that hurts me the most. Even though I don’t look like I’m visually impaired, the fact is, I do have an eye condition that makes it hard to see and the result is I do have a visual impairment that makes some daily task difficult to do, and the fact that I’m not going to be able to drive.

If you have any additional questions or comments feel free to leave them down below….

Topsy-Turvy Thinking Day

Hi Blog World,

This past Friday, Carol, challenged me to do a Topsy-Topsy Turvy Thinking day. What this meant was that I could not use the words, I, me, my or Amanda. The reason, Carol, wanted me to do this was to have me think outside of the box and to change my way of thinking, and to have me think before I spoke to other or even when I wanted to include something about myself.  Sadly, I did not do well, in fact, every time I said I, me, my or Amanda, I had to give Carol a penny.  I lost 14 pennies in all.

I was so scared of failing at this task, that at first, I didn’t even want to talk or to even try.  But with encouragement from Carol, I started talking.  One thing I did was over thought.

During the day, I found out that it was hard to give my opinion about the news, talk about other things than about my life, writing ect.  Part of the problem is because my world is so small the other part is because these words are so commonly used in our daily vocabulary.

By the time, I lost six pennies I was getting frustrated and angry.  Because of my change of outlook, Carol, became disappointed. We then talked about how this was supposed to be a positive and not a negative day. Then I started to think about how I haven’t made very much progress this year with my goals or even some of my past goals, so I decided why can’t I start doing something positive instead of negative now? So I changed my outlook and felt better.

Here’s the lessons that I learned:

1. Think positive

2. Work on expanding my world and my way of thinking about it.

3. I over think too much

4. Carol, has said this time and time again find other things to do because being idle it is not getting me anywhere in life…which related to point learned number 2.

Lastly, Norwegian sandwiches are awesome!

Yumm....A Norwegian sandwich-which I later learn that I had eaten it wrong,it is only eaten on one piece of bread not two.

My trip to the bookstore

Hi Blog world,

Today, I went to the bookstore. The ADA community van was very early, so consequently, I got there early.  Since I didn’t have lunch with my grandparents I went to Starbucks to get some lunch. The lady was so helpful when she told me about the soups and sandwiches they had. I had the chicken and Pesto with broccoli and cheddar soup. The sandwich was toasted, cheesy, and hot. The bread had a nice crunch to it.  The chicken was tasty because of the cheese and pesto, however, the chicken kept sliding off my bread so I didn’t eat all of it. The only other thing that I didn’t like was the taste of tomatoes. The soup was creamy, hot and tasted hardy on an empty stomach. The soup also came with oyster crackers  which added an extra crunch to my soup. I also had a lemonade to drink. It was sweet, but it felt hot to me.  The environment was good too. There was a lot of college students studying. It was nice to have some nice noise while I enjoyed myself.

This is a picture of my lunch

The price of the soup and sandwich was $6.50 and the lemonade was 1.95.  All in all, I feel it was a good meal and it was a good start to my adventure.  After lunch I sat in the Cafe and wrote for an hour. I also texted my friend.  After I got done with that I started shopping. I first looked at the puzzles, then to the children’s and youth section, because my friend and I sometimes read books from that age group. I also looked at the cute stuffed animals.

Then I went and got the book that I had on hold. It looks like a good book and I can’t wait to start reading it.  I looked at the writing books, history books,  Bibles, and other types of books. After a few hours, I went and checked out. I went and got me a hot chocolate from Starbucks and enjoyed it while I waited for the bus.

If was a fun day.

My Weekend

Hi Blog world,

This past weekend was a lot of fun because I got to see my best friend. We met at her work, and then we took the regular bus back to her school.  The bus ride was two hours long, but it was a positive experience for me since I have only ridden the bus during my white cane training. Once we where back on campus we went back to the dorm to get settled.  Then we went to the cafeteria to get food.  Much to our surprise there was not a lot of people in the cafeteria  latter we found out that the alarm  that we had heard as we were going to the dorm was going off because of a small fire that happened in another area of the cafeteria.

After we got our food, we went back to the dorm and had dinner. Then we talked. It was nice to catch up with each other. Then the fun of trying to get my computer hooked up to the internet began. Jessica tried several times to get it to work, so we went to the library to see if anyone could help. They couldn’t help us so we went back to the dorm, and Jessica had to spend an hour  manually connecting my laptop to the internet.  Once she was able to get me online we goofed off on the internet by updating our Facebook pages. Then we watched  the movie “Frozen”  In my opinion, it’s a great movie. Then because it was later and because we were both tired we went to bed until the next morning. The next morning we had breakfast and watched TV.

Well that’s all for now,

My trip to the downtown library

Hi Blog world,

I have had a really great week this week.  This past Wednesday, I went with my future God-Mother to the downtown library.  I usually use another library here in town so this was the first time using this one.  When we got there my future God-Mother told me what time it opened and what street it is located on in case I want to go back.  We went through the first floor then we went to the second floor. We found a table and then we both got settled. I first do a 50 question and answer worksheet for my future God-Mother and I to do.  It wasn’t that hard to come up with the questions, however, some of them did take some thinking time.  After I got that down I started another project. Cough, cough. I don’t want to say much since I don’t want to spoil the surprise later on.

Because I didn’t use my laptop computer for my second project it took the rest of the time while I was there.  The only thing I have to say about that is I have a long way to go. But I have a lot of time on my hands so I am not going to rush it and find out I have a project that I don’t like.

After my future God-Mother and I finished our work at the library we went downstairs to look at the books and magazines that were for sale. I didn’t find anything that I wanted to buy but I had a fun time browsing. 🙂

After we left the library we went out to lunch, and we went to Wendy’s and we had hamburgers.  We were still not done with our day, because we went out for milkshakes. It was a great day.

Here’s my question of the week: What kind of books or magazines do you guys like to read when you are at the library? Tell me in the comments below.

Ah! A snake!

Hi Blog world,

Today was filled with a  lot excitement I didn’t want. This morning, when I was going to take Noodles for a walk I ran into a snake! I was walking outside my front door when I felt something rub against my foot and when I looked down I saw a brown long thing moving back and forth.  I screamed as soon as I knew what it was and took off for the back yard, with Noodles behind me.

As soon as I got inside I told my grandpa about the snake and he said to go around back and go ahead and take the dog.  I was on my way to take Noodles when my grandpa was going to kill the snake, however, the snake must have been as scared as I was because he was no were to be found.  I was nervous all day from that point on because only once years ago did we find another snake in the back yard that was killed right away. I was hoping that he would not come back again, but one of my friends said that he would probably show up again and she was right.

Later, that afternoon, as I was going to take the mail out I opened the door and the snake was looking right up at me. I once again screamed and slammed the door shut.  I went and told my future God mother and grandpa about the snake and of its location.  My God mother, who is a lot braver then I, went out the back to the front to deal with our little friend. At first, she was just going to relocate the snake, however, because of my fear of it showing up again I begged her to kill it.  I helped by rushing to the shed and getting a shovel.  Once I gave the shovel to my future God mother the snake’s life was over and the remains of it was tossed into the woods.  I had way to much excitement for one day.

Later on in the day, I mentioned to my future God mother that I wish I had faced my fears and killed the snake on my own. I need to start learning to stand up to my fears instead of running from them which most of the time I do.  With that being said  here’s my question for my readers and subscribers: What are some of your fears? and how do you conquer them?   Tell me in the comments below, via Twitter, Facebook, or video response. I can’t wait to hear what you guys have to say and I’m ready to have a conversation!
