Road Trip adventure

Hi Blog world,

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I know I did. I went on a road trip to Biloxi, Mississippi with some of my friends. I was worried about getting car sick, and I had a few times of getting the case of nerves, however, I did not throw up. I think this is because of the good random conversation that we had.

Soon we were at the hotel. It was nice and to me it looked very fancy with all the nice sheets and the TV on the wall. We got our bags settled then we went hunting for a place to eat. We ended up eating at a restaurant that used to be a gas station. I got a cheeseburger and fries. I also got to try fries that were dipped in gravy and had roast beef on them. All the food we had was tasty, but soon all of our stomachs were full.

The casino
The casino we went to.

Once we left, we were headed to the main event and the fun or should I say “sinning” would begin. That’s right I went gambling at the casino!

At first I was overwhelmed at all the lights, noise and second-hand smoke, so my friend and I went outside so I could have a quick breather. Once I was ready to go back inside, we got our membership cards. Then we went up to the first floor to the non-smoking section. We looked around at all the games then we settled on one. I played the first few games for my grandpa-I lost. After that my friend and I went back downstairs and played some more. I did not do so well, and I only got .12 back. When we were done playing we went and got drinks.  We then went back outside for another break.

To be honest, this was one of the best parts of the trip. We were able to enjoy looking at the water and the air felt fresh to my lungs. We were able to talk about life, and how I can only be truly happy, by letting life be, and by work at setting and achieving  goals.

Soon we were back at the hotel-fast asleep.

The next day, the fun continued at the Hard Rock and Casino. This time, because it was early in the morning, there was hardly anyone there. My friends and I were able to split up and we had a wide variety of machines to choose from. This time, I came out of it with a little bit more money in my pocket then I did the previous night. Once again, at the end of the gambling my friend and I, went outside and enjoyed the sights. We were able to enjoy each other’s company.

Once we were back together, we decided to go to a souvenir shop. I did not find anything I wanted, but I enjoyed shopping anyway.

Inside a shark! Okay, truly its the souvenir shop.
Inside a shark! Okay, truly it’s the souvenir shop.

After the group met up again, we were all hungry and I had a craving for ice cream. To help settle my craving we went to a pizza parlor that also served ice cream. We ordered two different kinds of pizza. We also had fun waiting because we had the opportunity to make a craft with a clay material. I made a dog.

The two pizzas were delicious and interesting to taste; it was also fun to have a milk shake.  Once we were all done with eating we hit the road seeing all we could see on our way home.

Actually breaking down the walls of fear

Hi Blog world,

Over the past few weeks, I had to take life as it was, and I had to begin breaking down my walls of fear. The biggest fear that I had has been going to the doctor. I have had this fear since my mom died. I went to the doctor for a rash.  On a side note, I am going to be okay because the doctor gave me some medicine and it’s working. I also came face to face with my issues of not dealing with my stress and anxiety. I have a lot to work on. However, at least I told my nurse practitioner about how I want to learn how to cope better.

Another fear that I faced was crossing busy streets. I am fearful of crossing streets because of my visual impairment. But I know the more I cross the streets the more confident I will feel.

I have been feeling better about sleeping in the dark, too. I was uncomfortable with sleeping without the TV. I like to have background noise. Now I have learned to enjoy the quietness in my room while I drift off to sleep.

I still have a lot of work to do. However, I’m going to get to where I need to be.

Cooking on Friday Nights

Hi Blog world,

I have started to enjoy my Friday nights! Why you may ask? Because I have been cooking. One of my personal goals that I wanted to achieve this year was to improve my cooking. With guidance, from my friend Carol, I have cooked a variety of meals.

I have had the pleasure of passing on a few leftovers to some of my other friends, and it makes me happy to say that they have reported back  that they have enjoyed them. 🙂

Another thing I get to enjoy while I cook is when Carol and I get into the kitchen we have a great time. Not only do we get to talk about how to make my meal great, but we get to talk about life and about life lessons that will one day help me achieve success in my own life.

So here are my questions I would like my readers to answer: What are some of your favorite meals to cook?  What kinds of topics or  advice for life do you pass on while your cooking? Tell me in the comments below.

A visit to my university

Hi Blog world,

On Tuesday, I went to my old university. I had a meeting that I had to attend, so I decided to make a day trip.  I was all over the campus. I first went to the campus bookstore because I needed to pick up a few things. Then I went to the Communication Arts building. I was able to check out the school paper. Boy, I sure do miss writing for the paper. 🙂

After I checked out the school paper; I went to the meeting that I had to go to. The meeting  was long, and it was packed with information. But the main point that I took away from this meeting was I still have a lot of choices to make about my career and where I want to go with it. After my meeting, I was still feeling  hot and I was feeling tired from the heat, so to slow down the pace I decided to get some lunch. It was nice to sit back and enjoy watching people in the galley. I even saw two people I knew and it brightened my spirit.

Like most writers I enjoy coffee, so I headed over to the library to get some. I got an ice coffee, yuck! I ended up adding some creamers and sugar to it but it still didn’t turn out like I wanted it to and it, sadly, ended up in the trash can a little while later.

Even with most of the day gone I still had time to kill so I went and picked up a magazine that caught my eye. I enjoyed reading it and looking over my material from my meeting until it was time to go home.

All in all, it was a great day to make new memories but this visit also gave me a chance to look back on all the happy memories of my time as a student.

Personal Development: Iphone/Ipad Class

Hi Blog world,

On April 21, I completed a course on how to use the Iphone and the Ipad. During the course, I learned how to search with Siri, Send an Imessage, how to air drop information, and most importantly, how to check social media websites.

I would like to send out a thank you to the instructors, my fellow classmates, and staff for their support.

Because I have finished the course I now have skills that will help me in both my career and my personal life.

Noodles’ Legacy

Hi Blog world,

This is going to be a hard post to write; as many of you know I have been quiet for a while. That’s because I’ve been sad. On March 11, I had to put Noodles to sleep.  In late November, of last year, she started having seizures. The vet and I tried different medicines to help get the seizures to stop, however, she was not getting any better. On March 10th, she had another seizure, and I knew it was time to let her go. It was heartbreaking to let her go, but I knew it was for the best.

When I first got Noodles, sixteen years ago, my mom and I signed a puppy contract, one part of that contract was letting my beloved Noodles go when the time came. At the time,  I did not understand what “letting her go” meant but as I grew older and I understood that death was a part of life’s journey I knew that was part of the commitment to our friendship. I promised that I would not let her suffer. I cried the day I made the call knowing that once we arrived at the vet’s office that this would be our last visit together. I stayed with her until the end. I filled my part of the contract and Noodles fulfilled hers. She leaves behind so many great memories of our time together, of licks on the face, of silly tricks, and of going on life’s journey with me. From teaching me how to read better, I read out-loud to her many times as a young child, to helping me improve my writing, I used to write about her from my typewriter then as I grew older a computer, she helped me grow as a person. She taught me responsibility. She’s been through some of the happiest and saddest times of my life. I can’t thank her enough for being there for me. She leaves behind a great and lasting legacy.

Our last day together was very peaceful. We went outside, had a great photo shoot, I read, sang to her, and we cuddled and talked.

Here are some photos from our photo shoot. Photos taken by: Mrs. Karen

Personal Development: My final class

Hi Blog world,

My final class was on February 4th, and my final exam was a mock job interview. I was nervous, since I was not sure of what types of questions that I was going to be asked. I also felt like I have a lack of confidence since my work history is so small. My teacher’s supervisor and I did the mock interview several times for different kinds of journalism related jobs. After the interview, I got feedback. It’s clear that I am anxious and I tend to talk fast.  Another thing I need to work on is how to give clearer answers and examples of my work.  One of the toughest questions that the supervisor asked me was: What do you want for your life? This question is very complex and its hard for me to answer, since at this time, I feel pulled in many different directions when it comes to setting goals and making those goals a reality.

Right now, I only have concepts that I believe will make me happy, however, if I do not act on these concepts I may end up not  getting what I want out of life. I rather work hard and make things happen.
