Raining Compass Directions

Hi Blog world,

Since I am now back in town and it is summer vacation I have started my O and M classes again. Mrs. Lisa and I are working on compass directions. At first the lessons were hard for me to grasp, but now I am getting a handle on them. I also got a new travel “toy” which I jokingly call Bob the compass. This compass has large print and a LED light on it.  During my last lesson, we were downtown and it started raining just a little bit, we decided to continue working, until we had to run as fast as we could to the car to keep from getting soaked! Did anybody call for raining compass directions?

I am now able to combined many of my travel skills such as landmarks, compass directions, and the use of block travel. This will help me when I get to the Public transportation part of my training. This will open up a world of new sites and paths for me. I am so excited about being able to use it to become more independent. But before this part of my training can happen, I have to get my ADA pass renewed. I will be going to the eye doctor next month for an exam, and to get my form filled out.

In other news, I am sad to say that I will not be able to write for the school’s paper this next term. This is because I had a time conflict with one of my other classes that I have to take for my professional education minor. Because of this, I have to take one of my last required print journalism classes. I will be taking Feature Writing in the Fall.

In my spare time this summer I have been having a blast with my book club. We just finished a book called, “Light a Single Candle.” by Beverly Butler.

Blog soon,

Amanda Gene
